& Why Lotus Birth Doesn’t Have to be Hard

Sharon Tenuta is a Natural Counselor, Doula, Body Talk Practitioner, Natural Health and Natural Pregnancy Coach, HypnoBirth Educator, and Birth Educator from “In Touch and In Tune.”

Earlier in life, Sharon was a music teacher until retiring at 55. It was then she remembered the birth of her children and desired to become a midwife thanks to her own enjoyable experience.

Sharon has enjoyed supporting the natural birthing industry over the last five years, thanks to her multifaceted list of talents and experience. Tenuta has enjoyed learning and sharing (0:54) “many fascinating healing modalities and ways to hopefully make the world a better place.”

Sharon inspires us as she states, (2:33) “My goal is, I really want moms to feel empowered and know that they can birth a baby, and it’s a natural thing!

In pregnancy, hypnosis is a hot topic, as many women are embracing that empowerment Sharon wishes every mother to have. She discusses with us Marie Mongan’s Hypnobirthing program, Hypnobirthing; the Mongan Method’. Tenuta says Mongan created the method after the founder desired a natural birth, but was inhibited accomplishing her goals, due to physicians’ medical views in the 1950s.

Tenuta tells us Hypnobirthing the Mongan Method is a tried and proven method that guides and prepares a woman in giving birth peacefully and naturally. This program considers the psychological and physical well-being of the mother, her birth partner, and the baby.

It’s built around an educational process that includes conscious breathing, relaxation, visualization, meditative practise, attention to nutrition, and positive body toning. Hypnobirthing fosters mutual respect for the birthing family, as well as the health-care provider in a traditional health-care system or an alternative setting.

Luckily, Tenuta has a piece of excellent news for pregnant women, everywhere! She states, (05:19) “The reason we have pain is because of that triangle of fear, and tension; which causes pain. So if we are afraid and we have tension in our body, we will have pain. We need to realize that this is a natural process; our body knows what to do. We’re not afraid; we’re trusting our body.”

During the five 2.5 hour classes, Sharon says she “….discusses people’s fears; we discuss the natural process of labor and birth. We discuss what the culture presents to us, which makes us afraid.”

Sharon and many of us find the “Lotus Birth” so intriguing! For this reason, we asked her to elaborate on it.

She states a ‘Lotus Birth’ is leaving the umbilical cord uncut after birthing, so the baby remains attached to the placenta until the cord naturally separates within 3–10 days.

Tenuta says (18:02) Lotus Births are “allowing baby to come out, allowing the placenta to come out, keeping the both of them connected until baby releases the placenta.” She describes this practice as “quite beautiful.’’ because “the placenta is respected.”

When asked about maternal wisdom, Sharon gives excellent advice, she states, “allow yourself to keep growing. Experience natural the best way you can, and you will know more about yourself”.
